About us
Our Mission
DAST International, Inc. is a non-profit organization created to
help qualified candidates (no insurance or the financial means)
receive hip resurfacing surgery with a participating surgeon for
a greatly reduced or discounted price.
About Us
The idea for DAST came from a fellow surface hippy Cory Foulk on
May 10, 2006 when he proposed a start-up sponsorship to a needy
patient to have surgery with Dr. Vijay Bose.
In June 2007 Vicky put the wheels in motion to create a full non
profit organization around the idea. She researched to find the
perfect name and came up with DAST India. The original idea was to send patients to India and Dr.
Bose, but he suggested that I invite other surgeons to
participate. Here is an email I received from Dr. Bose on July
15, 2007.
"What can I say about the new DAST website?
It is
overwhelming in many ways. I am truly touched. The effort that
has gone into it is outstanding and all those who will benefit
from it have to thank you profoundly for this mega effort.
Heartfelt congratulations.
My sincere appreciations for all the board of directors , Cory
Foulk and Alan Ray for all their inspiration and efforts.
I truly hope that DAST will grow to serve many people.
The page layout is most appropriate. The Meaning of DAST that
you have explained is exceptional. There could be no better
word.
However, I do have a comment.
I think that DAST must not highlight my profile. In the future,
if other surgeons from any part of the world want to contribute
their services for DAST, they of course must be welcomed.
If this sort of a noble effort is one surgeon - centric, it will
unfairly belittle the effort. Therefore DAST must be more broad
based and universal in its scope." - Dr. Vijay Bose
On September 17, 2007 Dr. Thomas Gross joined DAST and at that
point the name changed from DAST India to DAST, International
DAST International, Inc. became a legal full 501c3 Non-Profit
organization on September 28, 2007.
On August 30, 2007, Dr. Koen De Smet joined DAST and in July
2008 Dr. Edwin Su joined DAST as the 4th surgeon to participate
in our non profit.
Our Board Members consist mostly of patients that had surgery
with each of the doctors.
Thanks to Dr. Bose, Dr. Gross, Dr. De Smet and Dr. Su for being
so kind to offer their services for free and for getting some of
their hospitals to participate as well. Thanks to Alan Ray,
Patricia Dukes, Carisa Sherwood and Dr. Bob Arnot for being on
our Board of Directors and a big thank you to all of those that
have contributed to DAST
